To round off the announcements, we have our final resident!! Completing our team of residents, it’s Shrugz!

Shrugz is a familiar face in the Drum & Bass scene in Hull, having been tearing down stages in the city for over a decade. Starting out with best friend and fellow MC Sambo they formed the duo Sambo & Shrugz.

A formidable wordsmith in his own right, Shrugz has long captivated the local scene with his intelligent and conscious bars. Over the years, he’s played for a host of brands such as Territory, Shinobi, Bass Sick Manuvaz and performed alongside names such as Aphrodite, Bladerunner, Conrad Subs and Inja. He was also a regular feature on the award winning Rough Tempo radio show and Manchester institution Bloc2Bloc.

These days Shrugz can be found smashing up the dance at the Urban Kikz nights and we’re thrilled to have him on board with us completing the regular line up for The Basstrix!

We might have unveiled all of our resident DJ's but what's a Drum & Bass night without some quality MC's to bring the energy?

First up, it's Basstrix founder Twisted MC!!

Starting out as an MC at 16, Twisted got his start performing at house parties, which quickly drew attention and landed him his first booking shortly before he turned 17. He soon became a prolific figure in the Drum & Bass scene in Swindon and became a resident for Profound Sounds, performing at gigs throughout Swindon and Bristol.

While travelling in Australia in 2011, he began putting on events and securing bookings alongside some huge figures in the scene, including Aphrodite. After returning to England and going on hiatus for a few years to take care of his young family, Twisted came back to the scene in 2020 with a renewed passion. Now living in Hull, he began making connections with DJ's here and becoming involved in the local scene.

In recent years, Twisted has been making his mark on the scene in Nelson, New Zealand. While living there, he performed alongside names such as Optimus Gryme (aka Charlie B) and joined the Lost In The Jungle brand as a resident MC for their monthly events. Upon returning to Hull last year, he quickly became a resident MC for Urban Kikz and started up The Basstrix, with the goal of unifying the Drum & Bass scene in Hull and creating a platform for emerging talent, hosting the first event in November 2024.

With some big plans for The Basstrix and bookings beginning to roll in from around the country, 2025 is set to be a big year for Twisted!

Announcing our final resident DJ!

Last but certainly not least, it’s QwirkyKen!!!

Starting his journey as a DJ all the way back in 2002, he first began playing in Scunthorpe for the Bass Sick Manuvaz brand before breaking into the Hull scene via a night called Terminal Velocity. He went on to run the Hyperblade event, which saw huge names such as Serum & Aries come to Hull.

QwirkyKen has played alongside a number of prominent artists during his over two decades in the scene, including Grooverider, Nicky Blackmarket, Kings Of The Rollers, Dimension & Sub Focus, playing for brands such as Let It Roll, Bass Sea, Together Ibiza, Resonating Audio, The Unit, Drum Addix and more. As well as playing at festivals and venues across the UK, QwirkyKen has also played a string of international gigs in countries such as Bulgaria and Prague. Outside of the clubs, he’s also a resident for leading Drum & Bass radio station Rough Tempo.

He now runs the Urban Kikz night in Hull, with a focus on showcasing the finest fresh talent within the local scene.

The resident DJ announcements continue!

Stepping up, stepping in, we have Yogi!!

A lover of all things D&B, Yogi started DJ’ing at the beginning of 2020 and quickly found himself playing an impromptu live gig for the Urban Kikz crew in July of the same year, after stepping in for another DJ that couldn’t make their set. He impressed enough to earn a spot amongst the residents of the night and the rest, as they say, is history. 

He had remained a key member of the crew and a familiar face at Urban Kikz for the past 4 years, even running a spin off night alongside fellow Kikz alumni Chillo and Sasquatch at Hull’s Arthouse venue. Serving as as a springboard for local talent, the night see’s a new local headline each month, showcasing some of Hull’s finest talents.

Recently, Yogi has been ticking some items off his DJ bucket list, including his first out of town performance in Manchester and supporting some of the biggest artists in the scene in the form of Upgrade & EJ Kitto at a recent Resonating Audio night.

Looking ahead for Yogi, he’s excited to make his debut at Hull’s institutional night The Residents Association at the end of this month and we are of course thrilled to have this bright, young and enthusiastic talent onboard repping as a resident and bringing the Neurofunk vibes for team Basstrix!

Another day, another resident!

Next up, we welcome @cookietee_dnb to our roster! Cookie Tee has quickly established herself as a dynamic force within the scene. With a deep passion for Drum & Bass, she began her DJ journey just three years ago and has rapidly evolved into a skilled performer known for her high-energy, engaging sets that span the full spectrum of the genre, with a particular focus on Jump Up, Jungle, and Neurofunk.

Cookie’s growing presence is bolstered by her dedicated following, cultivated through her weekly live streams on TikTok. She has performed at events across the UK, earning recognition from some of the biggest names in the industry. Her impressive track record includes performances for labels such as Urban Kikz, Residents Association, Resonating Audio, Interstellar Audio, and Modulate Records, as well as sharing the stage with prominent artists including EJ Kitto, Upgrade, Critical Impact, and Kaz.

In addition to her performances, Cookie is a resident DJ for Basstrix and Dionysus, playing regularly in her hometown of Hull and across the UK. Cookie is the driving force behind WUBS (Women United By Sound), a guest series aimed at providing a platform for women in the music industry, amplifying their voices and supporting their growth.

With her unwavering passion for DJing and her commitment to supporting fellow artists, Cookie Tee continues to make her mark in the Drum & Bass community.

It’s time to meet our residents! First up we have Twelve Step Audio!

Twelve Step Audio has been DJ’ing and producing since he was a teenager and prides himself of playing across the spectrum of Drum & Bass.

In recent years Twelve Step Audio has DJ’d at events across the UK & internationally, supporting some of the biggest acts in Drum & Bass, including Etherwood, Riya, Document One, Monrroe, Degs, Critical Impact, Kaz & many more.

He is also an accomplished producer, with music supported by DJ’s such as Dom Whiting (Drum & Bass On The Bike) and tracks featured on prominent radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, Kool FM & Bassdrive Radio.

Most recently, he founded newcomer label Outer Edge Audio focusing on the Liquid, Deep & Minimal sub genres of Drum & Bass. With a number of exciting things planned for 2025, it’s shaping up to be a bumper year for this talented artist and we’re over the moon to have him on board!!!

We are thrilled to welcome Hull based DJ/Producer & MC Twelve Step Audio to team Basstrix! Tom joins Ashley as part of the operations team behind the Basstrix.

Having had a go at pretty much everything over the years, from promoting his own events to running and working with record labels, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. 

With a focus on the digital, design and production elements of The Basstrix, Tom will be responsible for creating eye catching artwork and visual experiences for The Basstrix, as well as assisting in the marketing and operation of the events alongside Ashley.

He will also be joining our line up of resident DJ's (the rest of whom will be announed soon!) so expect to see a lot more of Twelve Step at our future events!
